The shortage of reliable electricity is a problem that occurs all over the world — according to the World Bank, 1.18 billion people are “energy poor”, which means that they lack adequate, reliable, and affordable energy for lighting, cooking, heating, and other daily activities necessary for welfare and economic development. Of these, about 733 million people lack any kind of electrical connection or provision. The negative effects of energy outages and prolonged periods with limited to no power availability cannot be overstated in our modern technology-driven world, as in some cases, electricity is crucial to receive fundamental human rights such as access to water and education.
India has a huge population across several states and areas, which has unfortunately led to irregular and sparse electric connectivity, and it is important for us to work towards ensuring that electrification is equitably distributed, leaving no person or area behind.
